Prolific auteur
Hong Sangsoo’s latest work
Hotel by the River has been invited to screen in the ‘Asian Vision’ section of this month’s Singapore International Film Festival.
Hotel by the River had its world premiere back in August at the Locarno International Film Festival, where it took part in the main competition. The film ultimately earned the Best Actor prize for lead actor
KI Joo-bong at the Swiss fest. Hong’s work was quickly snatched up by several other prominent festivals and has screened to date at the Toronto International Film Festival, New York Film Festival and Hamburg Film Festival, among several others.
KI stars in the black and white drama as an aging poet who spends time in a riverside hotel. He asks his grown-up sons to meet him there, while at the same time a woman, played by frequent Hong collaborator
KIM Min-hee, is also staying at the hotel, trying to recover from a bad break-up.
The drama is Hong’s second work this year, following
Grass, another black and white film featuring
KIM Min-hee, which bowed in the ‘Forum’ program of the Berlin International Film Festival.
This year’s Singapore International Film Festival is scheduled to run from November 28 to December 9.
Hotel by the River is the only Korean film featuring in this year’s selection.
