Second at the Philippine Box Office Behind CRAZY RICH ASIANS
CJ ENM’s Filipino remake of Korean hit
Miss Granny (2014) has been taking the number two spot for two weeks straight since its release on August 22nd.
“The Filipino adaptation of
Miss Granny, produced in Tagalog, was second behind American romantic comedy
Crazy Rich Asians at the local box office in the first week since its release on August 22.”
CJ ENM said that this Filipino remake took also the second place behind Philippine romantic drama
Hows of Us in its second weekend. “It has earned USD 2.45 million as of September 2nd.”
Unlike other
CJ ENM’s international remake projects of
Miss Granny in China, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand and Indonesia, this Tagalog version was made after a local production company purchased the film adaptation rights. The Philippine’s leading media entertainment Viva Films produced this remake, starring pop star princess Sarah Geronimo and singer-actor James Reid, under the direction of Joyce Bernal.
Meanwhile,
CJ ENM is planning to extend its projects to the North American markets by producing Spanish-language and English-language versions of
Miss Granny.
