  • Korean Films Pick Up 4 Prizes at Fantasporto

  • GLASS GARDEN, TRUE FICTION and A DAY Awarded in Portugal



    Korean films were a hit at the recently concluded 38th Oporto International Film Festival in Portugal. SHIN Su-won’s Glass Garden (2017), KIM Jin-muk’s TRUE FICTION and JO Seon-ho’s A Day (2017) came away with a combined four prizes between them at the fantastic film event, which is also known as Fantasporto.

    Glass Garden, screening in competition, earned the festival’s Best Screenplay Award. The fourth work by SHIN Su-won (Madonna, 2015), who also wrote the screenplay, the film debuted as the opening film of the Busan International Film Festival last year and stars MOON Geun-young as a biologist who retreats to the countryside where she is approached by a novelist interested in her research.

    Having its world premiere in Portugal, TRUE FICTION, the debut of director KIM Jin-muk, was featured in the Directors’ Week program, where it won both the Best Film Award and Best Screenplay Award. OH Man-seok (DETOUR, 2016) plays an aspiring politician who goes to the countryside with his mistress, where they meet a mysterious groundskeeper.

    JO Seon-ho’s timeslip thriller A Day, another directorial debut and also in competition, was awarded a Special Mention from the Fantasy Jury. The film features KIM Myung-min (Pandora, 2016) as a physician who witnesses his daughter’s death in a car crash and is then caught in a time loop, experiencing the events again and again.
