Korea’s last major release of 2017, the political drama 1987: When the Day Comes, is beginning its global rollout in early 2018. According to distributor CJ Entertainment, the hit film will open on screens across North America, Australia, New Zealand and Asia over the next few months.

Two days after its December 27 domestic debut, 1987: When the Day Comes opened at the CGV Buena Park 8 in California. On January 12, the film will expand to locations in New York, San Diego, Dallas, Chicago, New Jersey, Atlanta, Seattle, Toronto and Las Vegas across the North American continent. On the same day it will open in Taiwan.

Next up for the film will be Australia and New Zealand on January 18, Singapore on February 1, and Hong Kong and Macao on March 8. More Asian territories will follow throughout the year, including Japan.

Directed by Save the Green Planet (2003) filmmaker JANG Joon-hwan, the film stars KIM Yun-seok, HA Jung-woo, YOO Hae-jin, KIM Tae-ri, PARK Hee-soon, LEE Hui-joon, SUL Kyung-gu, GANG Dong-won and more in the real life tale of the cover-up of a student protester’s death by torture in Seoul in 1987.

After opening in second place behind the smash hit Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds, 1987: When the Day Comes has stayed level at the box office through exceptionally strong word-of-mouth and finally overtook the fantasy epic on January 8, by which time it had amassed 4.27 million viewers (USD 32.09 million).
