  • CJ’s LEE Mi-kyoung also Invited to Oscar Voting Group
     

    Three prominent Korean film figures have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) among this year’s record group of 774 new members. Indie filmmaker KIM Ki-duk, cinematographer and frequent PARK Chan-wook collaborator CHUNG Chung-hoon and CJ Group Vice Chairwoman LEE Mi-kyoung.

    A Golden Lion winner from the Venice International Film Festival for his 2012 work Pieta, KIM Ki-duk is one of the most famous and prolific Korean directors known to foreign audiences. His works include The Isle (2000), Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring (2003), 3-Iron (2004) and Moebius (2013).

    Active for 20 years, CHUNG Chung-hoon achieved fame as a cinematographer on PARK Chan-wook’s Old Boy (2003) and has maintained his status as one of the top directors of photography in Korea by working on all of the director’s subsequent works, including his Hollywood film Stoker (2013), as well as other films such as The Unjust (2010), New World (2013) and other American films including Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015).

    As vice chair of the CJ Group, LEE Mi-kyoung has been heavily involved in its entertainment division, CJ E&M Corp., including film investor and distributor CJ Entertainment.

    The trio join a selected group of Korean film professionals within AMPAS, including directors PARK Chan-wook, IM Kwon-taek and BONG Joon-ho and actors LEE Byung-hun, SONG Kang-ho and CHOI Min-shik.
