Actor Song Kang-ho’s 30 year-career will be highlighted in the global center of film industry. Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles is presenting Song’s retrospective exhibition from December 7th to January 13th, 2024.

The exhibition titled ‘송강호: Song Kang-ho’ is the museum’s first retrospective exhibition to be held in the theater. This is also the first retrospective of South Korean artist and of a living actor. The museum has curated exhibitions and screenings of the oeuvres by acclaimed directors including Hayao Miyazaki, Pedro Almodóvar and Agnès Varda, yet Song’s retrospective is the first of its kind to feature an actor’s career. 

The museum explained that Song “has cultivated unprecedented trajectories in his practice, illuminating new possibilities of cinema as an art form and beyond while contributing to the expansion of Korean cinema since his debut in the mid-1990s" for hosting the exhibition. Calling Song “a master of versatility”, the museum also wrote “[Song resists] the urge to convey his characters in linear, conventional ways.” The museum also praised Song’s insight on overall film production, which goes beyond the boundary of acting. 

‘송강호: Song Kang-ho’ will screen Song’s 14 works – Parasite, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Memories of Murder, Secret Sunshine, The Good, the Bad, the Weird, The Foul King, Broker, The Throne, Joint Security Area/JSA, Thirst, The Attorney, A Taxi Driver, The Host, and The Age of Shadows.

Song will personally attend in-person discussion sessions after the screenings of the movies Parasite, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Memories of Murder, and Secret Sunshine and have the opportunity to directly talk with movie fans.
