- HAN Hyo-joo Period Drama Set for Japan, Taiwan, PhilippinesPeriod drama LOVE, LIES, starring HAN Hyo-joo, has secured distribution to Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines ahead of its April 13th theatrical bow in Korea. Lotte Entertainment launched sales for the film during the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (HK FilMart) earlier this month.Directed by PARK Heung-sik, who made My Mother, The Mermaid (2004) and more recently the period action title Memories of the Sword (2015), both of which star JEON Do-yeon, LOVE, LIES was bought by Klockworx for Japan, KBro Media for Taiwan and Viva Communications for the Philippines.Cold Eyes (2013) and The Beauty Inside (2015) lead HAN features as So-yool, a ‘gisaeng’ (the Korean equivalent of a geisha) striving to become a famous singer in the 1940s during the Japanese Occupation of Korea. When So-yool’s first love Yoon-woo, a popular songwriter, falls for So-yool’s friend and fellow gisaeng Yeon-hee, she conspires to bring the pair down.Joining HAN on screen as Yoon-woo and Yeon-hee are YOO Yeon-seok, of The Royal Tailor (2014) and this year’s Mood of the Day, and HAN Gong-ju (2014) breakout star CHUN Woo-hee, who will also appear on screen this May in NA Hong-jin’s highly anticipated Goksung. All three actors previously appeared together in The Beauty Inside. LOVE, LIES co-stars PARK Sung-woong (Office, 2015) and JANG Young-nam (Ode to My Father, 2014).
