- DEEP TRAP Earns Best Asian Film at Fantasporto

Indie Korean thriller Deep Trap has won the Best Film Award in the Orient Express section, reserved for Asian films, at this year’s Fantasporto - Oporto International Film Festival in Portugal, one of the world’s foremost genre film events. This year Fantasporto ran from February 26th until March 5th.Deep Trap finds itself in illustrious company, following Korean films such as PARK Chan-wook’s Thirst, KIM Jee-woon’s I Saw The Devil and SHIM Sung-bo’s Haemoo (produced by BONG Joon-ho), which picked up the same prize in 2009, 2011 and 2015. To date, the only Korean film to win the top prize in Fantasporto’s main competition is KIM Jee-woon’s A Tale Of Two Sisters in 2004.Deep Trap, which debuted in Korean theaters back in September, features Don LEE (aka MA Dong-seok) as the mysterious owner of an inn on an island who begins to terrorize a young couple (played by JO Han-sun and KIM Min-gyeong) who visit from the city. The film is directed by KWON Hyung-jin, who has previously made the dramas For Horowitz (2006) and Wedding Dress (2010) as well as the thriller The Truck (2008).Deep Trap was one of two Korean films selected for Fantasporto this year, along with KIM Hwi’s The Chosen: Forbidden Cave. Both films are repped internationally by 9ers Entertainment. The film was produced by the JOY N CONTENTS GROUP, which was also behind last year’s indie drama Speed from director LEE Sang-woo.
