CHUNG Jen-feng, vice president of Wanda Media, said at the 4th
KOFIC Global Forum held in Seoul on 3 September, "Korea is the only Asian country that can compete with Hollywood’s cultural hegemony." CHUNG visited Korea to participate in the KOFIC Forum and discussed how to converge with information communication technology (ICT).
"Korea is the most advanced country in Asia in terms of film industrialization and systems, and the only Asian country that can actually compete with Hollywood’s cultural hegemony. China surely has a lot to learn from Korea, for example, how to deal with American hegemony, and what measures to take in order to advance the country's film industry. I expect that the two countries' co-operation will even expand in the future,” said CHUNG.
CHUNG unveiled Wanda's plan to collaborate with Korean filmmakers. He said the company is currently working closely with
YANG Woo-suk, who made a huge success with his 2013 film
The Attorney, for a Chinese-language film starring HK star Andy LAU.
In addition, Wanda has also been developing a script with
KANG Je-kyu, who is best known for his successful war blockbusters
Swiri and
TaeGukGi: Brotherhood Of War, since last year. KANG, however, said it is yet to be confirmed whether he will direct the film himself, and also that it is too early to disclose the details of the scenario.
CHUNG evaluated that though the Chinese film industry has a lot in common with Korea, Korea is still a step ahead.
“I recently watched
Assassination, where
Gianna JUN's charm was outstanding. Though I have watched many of her films, I think she could shine in this movie particularly, since the director showed his full ability. This is the strength that I see in Korean movies,” said he.
