Korea-China Co-Production TWENTY ONCE AGAIN to Begin Shooting in June
Miss Granny, by director HWANG Dong-hyuk, will be remade for the Chinese market. CJ Entertainment stated that filming for the Chinese adaptation of Miss Granny, Twenty Once Again (working title), will begin next month, aiming for release in Chinese theaters this winter.
Twenty Once Again is a joint project between Korea and China, produced by CJ Entertainment. The film will be produced and financed by Korea’s CJ Entertainment and China’s Beijing Century Media Co., Ltd, while C2M, Hauce Media and Media Asia are co-financing. CJ released A Wedding Invitation, from director OH Ki-hwan, in China last year, which recorded the biggest box office score for a Korea-China co-production. In addition, The Peaceful Island by director CHANG Yoon-hyun started shooting in March, and is aiming to open during the second half of the year.
Twenty Once Again will be directed by Leste CHEN and will feature YANG Zishan and Gua Ah Leh. Previously, director CHEN found success with his movie The Heirloom (2005), a hit in Taiwan.
A CJ official said that “Twenty Once Again will be a romantic comedy with fantasy elements that has never been seen before in Chinese theaters, because it will be adapted and directed to fit Chinese moviegoers’ tastes.” He added that “The talented director and actors have been selected and with the development capabilities and production infrastructure of Korea and China combined, we plan to give the project full support in order to make a successful precedent in the China market.“
