LATE SPRING Will also Premiere in California Fest
 

The 29th Santa Barbara International Film Festival is set to open its doors on January 30th and the menu this year will include a trio of Korean features. Popular thriller Cold Eyes adds another playdate to its festival calendar and will be joined by NOH Young-seok’s new film Intruders. Joining them will be the world premiere of drama Late Spring from director CHO Geun-hyun.

 

Cold Eyes and Late Spring will feature in this year’s competition in Santa Barbara. Directed by KIM Byeong-seo and CHO Ui-seok, surveillance thriller Cold Eyes stars popular actors SEOL Kyung-gu, JUNG Woo-sung and HAN Hyo-joo. Following its July release, the film drew over 5.5 million spectators, becoming last year’s tenth most successful film at the Korean box office. The film has already screened at numerous events, including the Toronto, Busan and Sao Paulo International Film Festivals. Late Spring is the sophomore film of CHO Geun-hyun, who directed the hit drama thriller 26 Years (2012), a crowdsourced work based on a controversial webcomic. The film features a sculptor who is slowly becoming paralyzed in post-war Berlin.

 

Screening outside of competition will be NOH Young-seok’s Intruders, his second film following 2009’s Daytime Drinking. The home invasion film set in wintry rural climes and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall, subsequently screening at the Busan, Hawaii and Rotterdam International Film Festivals.

 

The California festival will conclude its 29th edition on February 9th.
