Spanish Fest Invites Film to Animatopia Section
Following the recent announcement that Final Recipe will be receiving its word premiere as part of this year’s San Sebastián International Film Festival’s culinary section, news surfaced last week that it will be joined by the acclaimed debut animation The King of Pigs by YEON Sang-ho.
The King of Pigs takes a dark and brooding look at the harsh realities of bullying in the Korean high school system. Two friends, from poor backgrounds and with diminutive statures, find themselves the victims of torment and abuse until a mysterious and violent new student comes to their aid.
YEON’s searing filmmaking debut originally premiered at the Busan International Film Festival in 2011, where it earned the Netpac, CGV Movie Collages and Director’s Guild of Korea Director’s Award, before taking a long trip on the festival circuit which included stops in the Cannes, Karlovy Vary, Hawaii, Fantasia, Sitges and Edinburgh International Film Festivals, not to mention many more.
Meanwhile, YEON’s new film The Fake is set to world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month before moving on to the Sitges Film Festival in October. The 61st San Sebastián International Film Festival will take place from September 20th to 28th.
