Promising Queer Film Invited to Berlinale's Panorama Section
White Night,
LEESONG Hee-il's new film, to be released on Thursday in Korea, has officially been invited to the Panorama section of the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival. This is the second time that LEESONG has been invited to the festival. He went to Berlin with
No Regret in 2006 as well.
The announcement solidifies his status as the premier queer film director in Korea. Having earned his second chance to screen a film in Berlin following No Regret, he is expected to widen the exposure of Korea's queer cinema.
The 63rd edition of the Berlin International Film Festival, one of the most respected film festivals in the world, will be held between February 7th and 17th, 2013. This accomplishment is especialy meaningful as a separate award is bestowed to the best queer film in addition to best film and best actor prizes.
Earlier in 2006, No Regret was nominated as a competitor for the ‘Teddy Award’, the award given to the best queer film, though it did not win it. Expectations grow as White Night could become the first Korean film to walk away with the award.
