<i>Old Boy</i> reigns at Critics Choice Awards

The Critics Choice Awards, a yearly awards ceremony which has been held since 1980 by the Korean Film Critics Society, presented a total of five awards to PARK Chan-wook's acclaimed Old Boy, including Best Picture. Other prizes won by the film include Best Director, Best Actor (CHOI Min-shik), Best New Actress (KANG Hye-jung), and Best Music (JO Young-wook). For other categories, YEOM Jung-ah won Best Actress for her role in The Big Swindle; KIM Ki-duk won Best Screenplay for 3-Iron; Best New Actor went to KANG Dong-won for Romance of Their Own; Best New Director was won by CHOI Dong-hoon of The Big Swindle, and a Special Mention was presented to KIM Dong-won's documentary Repatriation. Record-breaking war film Tae Guk Gi also won Best Cinematography (HONG Gyeong-pyo) and Best Effects (JEONG Do-an). Prizes were scheduled to be given at a special ceremony on November 25 at Hypertheque Nada in Seoul. The Korean Film Critics Society, headed by JOO Jin-sook, also announced the best ten films of the past year by consensus vote, as follows: Old Boy (18 votes), 3-Iron (12 votes), Silmido (9 votes), Tae Guk Gi (8 votes), Repatriation (7 votes), Spider Forest (6 votes), The Scarlet Letter (5 votes), Woman is the Future of Man (5 votes), The President's Barber (5 votes), and The Big Swindle (3 votes).
