  • Korea’s First Stock Market Film, The Scam

With an economic crisis wreaking havoc across global markets, South Korea’s first stock market movie, The Scam, hopes to stir up the box office.  Scheduled to be released February 12, the Showbox/Mediaplex distributed crime thriller is the feature debut of director LEE Ho-jae.

The film stars hallyu TV drama star PARK Yong-ha as a jobless, self-taught trader who hits it rich.  His skills get him implicated in a big stock market scam run by a gangster (played by PARK Hee-soon from Seven Days) trying to transform himself in a financial mogul.

Director LEE spent two years researching and interviewing financial traders to achieve authenticity.  While films such as Tazza: The High Rollers dealt with the underground gambling world, The Scam is the first Korean film to ride the stock market – and will likely draw comparisons to Oliver Stone’s high stakes financial drama Wall Street.
