  • 63 Years On and Good, Bad, and the Weird win international award

KIM Dong-won’s 63 Years On received the Best documentary feature film award at the 2nd Asia Pacific Screen Award. The documentary is a platform for five women (Korean, Chinese, Filipina (2), and Dutch) who were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military, as they battle for an official apology from the Japanese government and recognition as World War II victims. The number of so-called comfort women for the Japanese army is estimated at 200,000.

The Good, the Bad, and the Weird’s director of cinematography LEE Mo-gae won the best cinematography award. LEE and KIM follow in the footsteps of LEE Chang-dong (Best director) and JEON Do-youn (Best Actress) who won at the inaugural Asia Pacific Screen Award show.

The Grand jury prize went to Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) 2007’s New Currents FIPRESCI prize winner Red Awn (China). Red Awn world premiered at PIFF 2007.
