TOP 5 Films of 2016 Korean Box Office
2016 was the year of
TRAIN TO BUSAN. The film smashed into the domestic film industry after its releasing on July 20th, and topped the 2016 box office drawing 11,565,479 viewers. It became the eighth most watched local film in Korean cinema history, while it ranked ninth at the all time Korean box office. The zombie thriller did well breaking previous Korean movie records in many Asian countries including Hong Kong and Singapore.
Ranking next was
A Violent Prosecutor, which was released during the Lunar New Year’s holiday. In third place was
Captain America: Civil War, the only foreign film in the top five. It hasn’t lived up to expectations, but gained the best result among foreign movies.
In addition, fourth and fifth place went to local films.
The Age of Shadows released during the Chuseok holidays and
Tunnel released in August, the summer season, came in fourth and fifth respectively, by a narrow margin. Meanwhile, another foreign film in the top ten is just one,
Doctor Strange, at tenth place.
