IPTV and Digital Cable TV’s Film VOD Sales Chart in Korea in 2016

Korean films have maintained dominant position in the digital online market in 2016. From January to September, only two foreign films took first place on the IPTV and digital cable TV’s film VOD sales chart: Disney animated film Zootopia (May) and Norwegian movie The Wave (August). The number of usages of foreign films is less than local ones; The Wave recorded 63,362 views, the smallest number of downloads among top films followed by Zootopia with 124,325 views.

The most downloaded film for a month is THE WAILING with 429,935 views in July. In the second place is Inside Men recording 402,481 views. Both of THE WAILING and A Violent Prosecutor have topped for two months, while Inside Men (2015) also became number one for two months in case of adding its director’s cut Inside Men: The Original. Therefore, the spectrum of successful movies of IPTV and digital cable TV is not so diverse as in theaters.
