A man and a woman who tried hard to avoid relationships due to their painful past falls into fateful love in
Snow In Sea Breeze. The melodrama unravels its story around Sun-mi (
LEE Young-a) who lost her father at a young age, and Sang-woo (
PARK Hae-jin) who lost his sister. Sang-woo saves Sun-mi from drowning in a river and helps find a music box from her father. They promise a lifetime together, but an unfortunate fate comes down onto Sun-mi.
This is a long awaited return of director
KIM Jung-kwon who directed YOO Ji-tae and KIM Ha-neul led
Ditto (2000) and cinematized KANG Full’s webtoon into
Ba:Bo (2008). KIM said that he “wanted to draw love based on sacrifice during an era of light relationships,” while talking about
Snow In Sea Breeze.
PARK Hae-jin, a Korean-wave actor who recently became very popular, and LEE Young-a star as leads in Snow In Sea Breeze. PARK plays Sang-woo, an enthusiastic aquarist who gives his everything to the woman he loves. This is his first lead role in a film, while he also recently starred in a Chinese TV drama series and has gained more fans. Sun-mi is played by LEE Young-a who is more often seen on the brown screen. LEE plays a positive character who continues to truck on in the midst of life hurdles.
To visually express the purity of the love in Snow In Sea breeze, director KIM chose Japan’s Akita for the location shoot. “Japan has the best winter scenery that can bring out a melodramatic atmosphere,” said director KIM. Akita is known for its beautiful snow and it was also used as the backdrop of a Korean TV drama, Iris. In addition, the soundtrack for the film was sung by a K-pop group Fly to the Sky’s Brian.
Prior to its domestic release, Snow In Sea Breeze’s promotional reel was shown at the 2014 Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Film Market where international film professionals gave positive reviews. This led to pre sales in Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Indonesia. More sales could happen in the near future as China and japan also have their eyes on the film.
