Chungmuro Film Festival in Seoul (CFFS)
    - Dates :
    - Category : Competitive & Non-Competitive
  • The Chungmuro Film Festival in Seoul (CFFS) aims to discover diverse film traditions from around the world, restore the history of Korean cinema, and create a new film culture that adapts to the rapidly changing media environment of the 21st century. From classic silent films to independent digital feature films, from acclaimed masters to debutants, encompassing both the center and the periphery, CFFS seeks to implement its keywords of discovery, restoration, and creation through diverse and inclusive programming.

CFFS aspires to create a new model of film festival that actively engages with audiences through various cultural festival contents that combine popularity and artistic quality, connecting prominent tourist belts within Jung-gu such as Namsan, Myeongdong, Chungmuro, Cheonggyecheon, and Dongdaemun. Furthermore, it hopes that audiences will actively participate in the festival, not just as passive spectators but as active participants in the joy of 'watching films together.' To achieve this, it aims to comprehensively restore and recreate the act of watching films as a cultural event.

Initially started 2007, it became in 2015 the Chungmuro Musical Film Festival, a film festival born from the convergence with the Chungmu Art Center, a dedicated musical theater. It presented a special program that combined various musical films from around the world, including classics and new works, along with performance footage, live performances, and films.

In 2020, co-hosted by the Directors Guild of Korea (DGK) and Jung-gu Cultural Foundation, the Chungmuro Musical Film Festival continued its legacy by launching the Chungmuro Film Festival - Director's Week after hosting four editions. Modeled after the unofficial section of the Cannes Film Festival called "Director's Week," it was the only director-centric film festival in Korea where directors plan and produce all the festival programs. Today, it is back to its roots as a festival essentially dedicated to Korean cinema.
