LEE Gyoung-young Co-Stars in Political Comedy

IM Chang-jung and JUNG Ryeo-won appear to set to headline Gate, a new project that centers around the recent political scandal involving former President PARK Geun-hye and her confidante CHOI Soon-sil. Also to feature in the film by director SHIN Dong-yeob is veteran actor LEE Gyoung-young.

Gate will concern the predicament of a top prosecutor whose efforts to solve a case are scuppered when he loses his memory following a car accident. The film will feature elements of the recent political controversy but is said to be a comedy piece.

Singer and actor IM Chang-jung has featured in a range of roles since his debut in Beat (1997), often playing a leading man in comedies and romcoms, such as Sex Is Zero (2002) and Miracle on 1st Street (2007).

Gate will mark JUNG Ryeo-won’s first feature film role since 2012’s romantic drama Never Ending Story. One of her most iconic roles was opposite JUNG Jae-young in the cult classic comedy Castaway on the Moon (2009).

LEE Gyoung-young is one of the most prolific performers of contemporary Korean cinema, with recent credits that include Assassination (2015), Inside Men (2015) and Pandora (2016).

Director SHIN Dong-yeob has helmed several small commercial titles, such as Days of Wrath (2013), 2015’s Untouchable Lawmen (with both IM Chang-jung and LEE Gyoung-young) and last year’s Duel: The Final Round.

Gate will go into production at the end of April for around two months and is being prepared for a Chuseok holiday release this fall.
