Canadian Fest Books International Premiere of FAMILYHOOD

For its 20th anniversary, the Fantasia International Film Festival is pulling out all the stops, which includes a healthy selection of 20 Korean feature and short films. Among those will be the international premiere of comedy-drama Familyhood and the North American premiere of zombie thriller TRAIN TO BUSAN.

From Sunshine Boys (2013) director KIM Tae-gon, Familyhood is a vehicle for Coin Locker Girl (2015) star KIM Hye-soo. The film co-stars Don LEE (aka MA Dong-seok) who also features in TRAIN TO BUSAN, the live action and big budget debut of indie animation director YEON Sang-ho. The film drew strong reviews when it premiered in the Midnight Screenings of the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

Other high profile Korean films on show in Montreal this year will be NA Hong-jin’s critically-acclaimed THE WAILING, another import from Cannes, E J-yong’s Berlinale feature The Bacchus Lady, ROH Deok’s media thriller The Exclusive : Beat the Devil’s Tattoo, KIM Sang-chan’s Karaoke Crazies, JANG Jae-hyun’s exorcism thriller The Priests, LEE Joon-ik’s period drama The Throne with SONG Kang-ho, JUNG Ji-woo’s indie drama Fourth Place and YEON Sang-ho’s Seoul Station which precedes the events of TRAIN TO BUSAN.

This year’s Fantasia will unspool in Montreal over July 14th to August 3rd.
