Kim Jeewoon and Song Kangho Team Up for 5th Time on COBWEB
First Project from Kim and Song’s Production Company Anthology
Director Kim Jeewoon and star Song Kangho are teaming up for the fifth time on the upcoming film Cobweb (translated title). The hitmakers have previously collaborated on modern classics such as The Quiet Family (1998), The Foul King (2001), The Good, The Bad, The Weird (2008) and The Age of Shadows (2016).
The script to Cobweb was written by writer-director Shin Yeonshick, who was originally on board to direct the project. Shin is currently in post-production on the sports drama One Win, another project starring Song Kangho.
Song signed on to One Win after agreeing to appear in Cobweb, which was temporarily put on hold owing to the difficulty in finding an investor. Song also participated in Japanese director Koreeda Hirokazu’s Korean debut Broker in the interim.
The project has been described as experimental and will be shot exclusively on sound stages. The story concerns a film within a film. Kim, whose debut drama series Dr. Brain is currently airing on Apple TV+, has been reworking the script for Cobweb, and the project is eyeing a production start early next year.
Spider House is set to be the first project from Anthology Studios, a production company set up by Kim, Song and veteran producer Choi Jaewon, the former head of Warner Bros Korea, last year, which was quickly bought up by JTBC Studios in a KRW 20 billion (USD 18 million) deal. Kim, Song and Choi have worked together before on both The Good, The Bad, The Weird and The Age of Shadows.
