MIDNIGHT Invited to NYAFF and Fantasia
Korean Horror Title with Jin Kijoo Scores International Sales
Midnight, the new Korean horror film which launched simultaneously online and in theaters in Korea on June 30, has lined up a raft of festival invitations and sales to 11 international territories.
From debut director Kwon Ohseung, the film has been invited to the 25th edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival and the 20th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), both taking place this summer.
Sales agent Finecut revealed that the film had secured distribution to several international territories, including France (The Jokers Films), Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (CJ ENM Hong Kong), Cambodia, Laos and Thailand (M Pictures), Japan (Gaga Corporation), the Philippines (VIVA Networks) and Vietnam (Westec Media Ltd.).
The film stars Jin Kijoo of Little Forest (2018) as a young deaf woman who becomes caught in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a serial killer played by Wi Hajun after she runs into a young woman running away from him.
Launched on June 30, Midnight was the second film this year to debut both in theaters and on the streaming service TVING, the platform owned and run by CJ ENM, after the SF drama SEOBOK was the first to ever do so in Korea earlier this year. To date, the film has welcomed over 100,000 sectors on domestic release and has been the number one film on TVING since its release.
