Popular Naver Webtoon to Be Adapted for Global Streaming Platform
Netflix is continuing to attract major film talent in Korea after announcing a new high-profile show in the works, the upcoming zombie series All of Us Are Dead. LEE Jae-kyoo, the director of The Fatal Encounter (2014) and Intimate Strangers (2018) will take the director’s reins, along with KIM Nam-su.
All of Us Are Dead is based on a popular Naver webtoon called Now at Our School by JOO Dong-geun, and the script has been written by CHEON Sung-il. The plot follows an ordinary school that becomes a zombie infection hotspot, but no one can escape. The original webtoon has also found success beyond Korea, in places like Indonesia, Thailand and Taiwan.
The show is the latest property to join the filmed zombie content boom in Korea, which came with the global smash TRAIN TO BUSAN in 2016 and also includes the period film Rampant (2018) and last year’s film THE ODD FAMILY : ZOMBIE ON SALE. Meanwhile Peninsula, a TRAIN TO BUSAN sequel, is due out this summer and Netflix previously debuted in the Korean market with the period zombie show Kingdom, which recently launched a popular second season.
The series will be produced by JTBC Studios in association with Film Monster and will be presented as an exclusive Netflix release worldwide. All of Us Are Dead joins a stream of high concept genre-focused series commissioned by Netflix for Korea, including HWANG Dong-hyuk’s Round Six and LEE Kyoung-mi’s The School Nurse Files.
