BECOMING WHO I WAS Earns Generation Kplus Grand Prize
It was a big year for Korean films at the Berlin International Film Festival with a pair of major prizes going to Korean film talent at the conclusion of the 67th Berlinale on Saturday, February 18th.
KIM Min-hee became the first Korean performer to earn a prize at the festival, as she came away with the Silver Bear for Best Actress for her leading role in
Hong Sangsoo’s Competition film
On the Beach at Night Alone. The documentary
Becoming Who I Was, from directors
MOON Chang-yong and
JEON Jin, was awarded the Generation Kplus Grand Prize.
On the Beach at Night Alone, which takes place both in Hamburg, Germany and the Korean seaside town Gangneung, features KIM as an actress coming to terms with the end of an affair with a married director. The film is director Hong’s 19th and his third in Competition in Berlin, after
Night And Day (2008) and
Nobody’s Daughter Haewon (2013).
