SONG Seung-heon Receives Outstanding Asian Contribution Award
Between the 6th and 8th of March, the Macau International Film Festival staged its first Golden Aries Awards. Korean naval drama Northern Limit Line was one of the award winners of the evening, picking up the Golden Aries Award for Best Cinematography.
The big winner of the night was Chinese box office smash Goodbye Mr. Loser, which picked up five awards, while Chinese titles The Master won Best Film and Best Actress (shared with A Fool) and Blind Massage picked up Best Director and Best Actor.
Also representing Korea at the awards were popular actor SONG Seung-heon, who received the Outstanding Asian Contribution Award, and Busan International Film Festival founder KIM Dong-ho, who was invited as one of the honored guests to launch the event. SONG is a popular film and TV actor who was recently seen in Wonderful Nightmare (2015) and Obsessed (2014).
Northern Limit Line, which features GIM Mu-yeol (Eungyo, 2012), JIN Goo (Mother, 2009) and LEE Hyun-woo (Secretly Greatly, 2013), was a big hit early last summer, netting 6.04 million viewers (USD 38.88 million). The film follows the second battle of Yeonpyeong, where a South Korean naval suffered an unprovoked attack from North Korean vessels during the frenzy surrounding the 2002 World Cup, which was hosted by Japan and Korea. The film was directed by KIM Hak-soon.
