Actors who became an instant star have their fate sealed. They are destined to consume their star power in trendy TV dramas and project movies. A pop star with a loyal following of groupies has a very narrow, limited range as an actor. As SONG Seung-heon rose to instant fame, he has struggled with the same dilemmas and limitations. Although his dramas generated the highest viewership ratings, it was difficult for him to find a chance to reinvent himself as an actor. <Autumn’s Tale> served like a breakthrough to him. A well-made trendy drama does not wear out an actor’s image but ignites a growth spurt. He portrayed charming, chaste love in <Autumn’s Tale> and <Summer Scent>, which catapulted him to become a star in Asia. His acting style changes in movies costarring with his close friend [KWON Sang-woo] in <Make It Big> and <Fate>. He delivered stable performances in <A Better Tomorrow>, an adaptation of original <A Better Tomorrow> (1986) and <Ghost>, a Korean-Japanese remake of Hollywood classic <Ghost>(1990). In 2014, SONG appeared in the steamy melodrama <Obsessed> from director KIM Dae-woo, playing a military captain conducting an affair with the wife of a younger officer. The following year he appeared in his first Chinese film <The Third Way of Love>, from Korean filmmaker John H. LEE, as well as the high concept comedy <Wonderful Nightmare> opposite UHM Jeong-hwa.
