AS ONE Filmmaker Takes on Period Film
A Hard Day (2014) star
LEE Sun-kyun is teaming up with new face
AHN Jae-hong for the upcoming period thriller
The King’s Casebook (literal title). The film will follow the king of the Joseon Dynasty and his officers as they try to solve a case which throws the nation in disarray.
The production marks the sophomore directing effort of
MOON Hyun-sung, who debuted with the table-tennis drama
As One, with
BAE Doo-na and
HA Ji-won, in 2012. The story is based on a Korean comic of the same name by HEO Yoon-mi.
LEE takes on his first lead role in a period production as King Hye-jong, a monarch with a keen instinct who looks to unravel mysteries outside his palace. After last fall’s thriller
The Advocate : A Missing Body, LEE is currently filming
Precious Lady (literal title) with
KIM Hye-soo.
AHN, who was in last year’s period production
THE SOUND OF A FLOWER, will play one of the king’s officers and close confidant who is endowed with a great memory. Following his breakout lead role in the popular sports comedy indie
The King of Jokgu (2014), AHN has been gaining notice as a commercial film star, appearing in
Twenty (2015),
C'est Si Bon (2015) and the upcoming
Fabricated City alongside
SHIM Eun-kyoung.
The King’s Casebook is being produced by
Film Company RAM (also behind upcoming drama
Familyhood with KIM Hye-soo) and will be distributed by
CJ Entertainment. The film is scheduled to begin shooting in May in anticipation of a 2017 release.
