Born in 1981, filmmaker Moon Hyunsung first worked as a scripter on the blockbuster historical drama <May 18> (2007). That same year, he also appeared in <Milky Way Liberation Front>, and prior to his directing debut, Moon appeared in a small role in the romantic drama <Love Isn't Stop>. He also served as assistant director on the 2009 horror film <Yoga>, and first assistant director on the 2011 monster feature <Sector 7>. He made his feature debut in 2012, when he teamed up with top actresses Bae Doona and Ha Jiwon for the sports drama <As One>, a film that involves the top table tennis players from North and South Korea teaming up to form a joint team for the World Championships. Following its release in May, the film was invited to global events such as the London Korean Film Festival, the Atlanta Korean Film Festival and the Fribourg International Film Festival as well as the Seoul Citizen Film Festival back home. Moon was then nominated in the Best New Director category at the 49th Baeksang Arts Awards, with <As One> star Han Yeri picking up the Best New Actress for. He then followed it up with the Joseon Era period comedy <The King’s Case Note> (2016), which starred Lee Sunhyun and rising star Ahn Jaehong. After a short stint as an executive producer, he came back as a director in 2022 with the high-octane action Netflix film <Seoul Vibe>, in which a group of daredevil street racers-turned-detectives goes after the powerful people behind a slush fund across 1988’s Seoul.
