Three young women work for a large company in the mid-1990s, but despite their ambition and desire to move up in the company they have never been given more than insignificant chores, partly because they were only able to attain high school diplomas. One day, a memo is spread around the company announcing that those who score 600 on the TOEIC exam (English proficiently test) will be up for promotion. Ja-young, Yu-nah and Bo-ram sign up for English classes but one day, when Ja-young is sent on an errand to a countryside factory, she witnesses illegal waste disposal. Believing their company is doing something shady, she and her colleagues try and track down evidence, but before long they run afoul of upper management.
Topping the charts over the past weekend was the new drama SAMJIN COMPANY ENGLISH CLASS, which has been driving up anticipation ahead of its release with its topical tale of workplace discrimination. KO Asung of The Host (2006) and A Resistance (2019) leads the cast, while E Som of Microhabitat (2018) and PARK Hye-su (Swing Kids, 2018) play the colleagues who help her. LEE Jong-pil, who previously helmed Born to Sing (2013) and THE SOUND OF A FLOWER (2015), directs this social drama with a cast that features a wide range of supporting female characters.
