The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) recently announced that it would be putting on a four-film VIP Screening Series in the Laemmle Music Hall in Los Angeles. The series took place to celebrate five Korean films figures who were recently invited to become members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
Those new members of AMPAS are Korean directors IM Kwon-taek, master of Korean cinema, BONG Joon-ho, one of the biggest names that has globally represented Korea with hit film Snowpiercer, actors SONG Kang-ho of Snowpiercer, CHOI Min-shik best known for his role in Old Boy, and animator Kim sang-jin.
The screenings were free of charge and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
On September 23rd, KOFIC screened Revivre, the 102nd work of legendary Korean filmmaker IM Kwon-taek, and HAN Jae-rim’s period drama The Face Reader, featuring new AMPAS member SONG Kang-ho. On the 25th, they screened visionary filmmaker BONG Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer and YOON Jong-bin’s crime saga Nameless Gangster : Rules of the Time, featuring iconic actor CHOI Min-shik.
All the screenings featured introductions and Q&A sessions with Shane Danielsen, the former Artistic Director of the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
