Born in 1979, EOM Yuna studied film and theatre at Dongguk University in Seoul before making her first step into filmmaking as part of the film crew of <Over the Border> (2006). After a stint as a script supervisor for <The Chaser> (2008), she went back to studying and received a Master’s degree in scenario from the Korea National University of the Arts. After a first script used to produce <Waltzing on Thunder> (2013), her friend PARK Eun-kyung, CEO of production company The Lamp, was looking for someone who would write the script of her new project. The result, <A Taxi Driver>, became one of the biggest successes upon its release in 2018. While EOM was struggling with the screenplay of an action movie with which she was planning to make her directing debut, PARK told her about her idea of bringing to the big screen the story of <MAL·MO·E>, the first Korean language dictionary ever compiled, which occurred during the Japanese occupation. As she found especially compelling this group of people from all walks of life joining force for a bigger cause, she decided to make it her first directing effort, which enjoyed solid success in 2019 under the title <MAL·MO·E: The Secret Mission>.
