Born in 1991, she made her singing debut in 2007 as one of the eight members of Girls’ Generation and quickly gained popularity in Korea and across the Asian continent. She had a go at acting when she lent her voice to the character Edith for the Korean version of <Despicable Me> (2010) and its 2013 follow-up. Her acting career started in 2013 when she was offered a small role in the TV series <Passionate Love>. The next year, she made her debut on stage in a musical adaptation of the novel <Moon Embracing the Sun>, soon followed an appearance in the film <My Brilliant Life> (2014). 2016 was a busy year for SEO as she could be seen in the period drama series <Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo> (2016), a production of the musical <Mamma Mia>, as well as in the China-Korea co-produced romcom film <So I Married an Anti-fan> (2016), based on the Korean comics of the same name. After the release of her first solo album in 2017, she headlined the procedural drama series <Bad Thief, Good Thief>. Before the end of the year, she left SM Entertainment to focus on her acting career. Most recently, she could be seen playing a woman who came out as a lesbian in the series <Hello Dracula> (2020) and a con artist in the crime series <Private Lives> (2020).
