Born in 1967, JEONG Yeon-shik, following his studies at Pukyong University, entered and won the National Cartoon Competition in 1998 and went on to become a successful webcomic artist. In 2011, he wrote the webcomic ‘The 5ive Hearts’ and then set out to adapt it himself into a film. The result was 2013’s <The Fives>, which was produced by Cinema Service and directed by first time filmmaker JEONG. A gritty tale of revenge in which KIM Sun-a played a wheelchair-bound woman who lost her husband and daughter to a brutal attack, <The Fives> follows her long-gestating plan for revenge, in which she enlists the help of four people in difficult situations who she will compensate with her own organs when the job is successfully completed. Though not a commercial hit, the film was nevertheless well-received, particularly on the global stage, following invitations to the Sitges and Brussels International Fantastic Film Festivals.
