IM Sang-jin made his name in the Korean film industry as the head of the film planning department at CJ E&M. He is notably credited for having produced <Masquerade> (2012), which marked the first time in Korea that a project initiated by a film distributor turned into a successful movie. He indeed conceptualized and wrote the script of <Masquerade> before looking for the best suited director, a clear departure of the traditional role assumed by Korean film studios centered on securing investment for projects pitched to them. As a result, he won Best Planning later that year at the Grand Bell Awards. Other films that Im made this way include <Perfect Number> (2012), <Watcha Wearin’> (2012), <Way Back Home> (2013) and <Salut d’Amour> (2015). After working at CJ E&M for close to a decade, he left the company in 2015 and set up the production company Story & Story.
