Born in 1980, KIM Hyung-ju majored in film from Chung-Ang University, Seoul, but chose another line of work due to personal reasons upon graduation. He eventually came back to his first love in 2008 as he was hired as assistant director for rom-com film <Lost & Found>. He went on with a few other movies such as IM Kwon-taek’s <Hanji>, until his former classmate LEE Il-hyung, the director of <A Violent Prosecutor>, introduced him to YOON Jong-bin. The latter offered KIM to be first assistant director on his next film <KUNDO : Age of the Rampant> (2014), and was so pleased with his work that he encouraged him to write and film his own stories. Since he had an interest in people who have resorted to making drugs following the 1997 Asian financial crisis, KIM Hyung-ju decided to tackle the issue with his directorial debut <The Sheriff In Town> (2017).
