Born in 1979 in Daejeon, SUNG Si-hup completed undergraduate film studies in Dankook University before doing a master’s in Dongguk University. His first acclaimed short came in 2004, when <You Bored Me> picked up the Eastman Kodak Award. In 2006, his short <Strangers> was invited to the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and the same year he worked as an assistant director on YOO Ha’s landmark gangster film <A Dirty Carnival>. His 2008 work <Shoveling> picked up the Korea Youth Film Festival Director's Award and that year he also worked as a production assistant on NA Hong-jin’s incendiary debut <The Chaser>. His next two shorts, <Boxer’s Diamond> (2009) and <The Last Train> (2010) screened at numerous festivals, including the Daejeon International Film & Video Festival, while his 2011 effort <Happy International Student> picked up the Audience Award from the Seoul Extreme-Short Image & Film Festival. In 2011 he also appeared in a small role in PARK Jung-bum’s acclaimed indie debut <The Journals of Musan>. With all this experience under his wing, SUNG next prepared his feature debut, the romcom <Plan Man> with backing from Lotte Entertainment. The first Korean film to be released in 2014, <Plan Man> featured JUNG Jae-young as a library worker suffering from OCD when he gets involved with a free-spirited musician played by HAN Ji-min.
