PARK In-jae, born in 1973, graduated from the Korea National University of Arts in 2003 and gained recognition by winning Best Film in the A City of Sadness competition (social commentary) of the Mise-en-scene Short Film Festival with his film <The End of the Road> (2003). Unfortunately, he had to wait until 2011 to make his feature debut. His political thriller <Moby Dick> (2011) imagined a dark conspiracy behind a bridge collapse inspired by that of Seongsu Bridge in 1994. He doubled-down on his criticism of corruption in the current political landscape with <The Mayor> (2017), which follows a politician running for a third term as Seoul mayor who will stop at nothing to win the race. The film, released at a time of growing concern about the morality of politicians following the much mediatized impeachment of former president PARK Geun-hye a few months earlier, attracted 1.3 million viewers.
