The remake was screened in Competition at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival in 2010. Im has created stir and received critical acclaim with every film he made, unmasking the problems of the Korean society with his sharp eyes and narrative. He wrote the script of <Guro Arirang>(1989), directed by [PARK Jong-won], and worked on the sets of movies by [KIM Young-bin] and [IM Kwon-taek]. IM’s other movies also competed for international awards, <Tears>(2000) in the Berlin Film Festival(Panorama) and <A Good Lawyer’s Wife>(2003) in the Venice Film Festival (official competition). <The President’s Last Bang>(2005) was selected for Cannes Directors' Fortnight, but had to be released in Korea with some scenes deleted for dealing with one of the most sensitive incident in modern Korean history. IM is well received in France as well so much so that he took residence in France to work on directing. His movies are also regarded highly overseas as in Korea. In 2010 he remade KIM Ki-young’s <the Housemaid> (1960) and received an invitation to the main competition of the Cannes Film Festival. He returned to the Cannes competition section two years later with the stylish drama-thriller <The Taste of Money>.
