He moved up to being an assistant director, a position he maintained on a number of commercial films during the first decade of the millennium. His credits include <Magoq> (2002), <Sword in the Moon> (2003), <The Ghost< (2004), <Vampire Cop, Ricky> (2006), <Skeletons in the Closet> (2007) and <A Man Who Was Superman> (2008). In 2010, he helped out on the script of the thriller <No Mercy>, while also preparing his own feature directing debut <Bestseller>. An intricately designed chiller of a writer (played by UHM Jeong-hwa) who retreats to the countryside to escape accusations of plagiarism, only to be embroiled in a dangerous local mystery, the film put LEE on the map as a talent to watch, particularly after being selected in competition for the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. Four years later he returned with <Broken>, an adaptation of the Japanese novel ‘The Hovering Blade’ by HIGASHINO Keigo. In it, JUNG Jae-young starred as a grieving father who tracks down his daughter’s killers in the snowy mountains.
