He kicked off his entertainment career first on television in 2006 but more seriously as a member of the three-man outfit Tachyon in 2007. Launched by J&H Media, the band soon disbanded, following which SON began to focus on his career as an actor. Roles in film followed, including the K-horror <Death Bell> (2008), followed by the indie drama <Wish> in 2009 and the horror sequel <Death Bell 2: Bloody Camp> in 2010. SON shot to stardom in the TV show <Reply 1994> in 2013, which scored him several Best New Actor award nominations at local awards shows. He then featured in the 2014 action-thriller <Big Match> in a supporting role.
His star kept rising after appearing in variety and reality shows such as <Youth Over Flowers> and <Three Meals a Day: Fishing Village>. More awards followed in 2015 when he appeared in the show <Mrs. Cop>. In addition to television, SON was also active on stage and as a singer. In 2015, SON scored a lead role in KIM Sang-jin’s road comedy <Three Summer Night>, after which he appeared in the indie thriller <Circle of Atonement>, which debuted at the Busan International Film Festival.
