Through his camerawork on Haeundae(2009), KIM opened a new chapter of Korean-style disaster blockbusters. He had to rely on his imagination in filming the movie as to its size and scale due to its unprecedented use of tsunami CG, but he pulled off creating spectacular scenes. Since his debut, KIM filmed ordinary peoples life dramas for movies such as Marriage Is a Crazy Thing, Superstar Mr. Gam, A Good Day to Have an Affair, and Harmony(2007). In Haeundae, he showed his talent by seamlessly connecting the mundane routines of its characters in the first half of the movie with the tense moments before and during the tsunami attack in the second half. Another reason for the successful tsunami effect in Haeundae comes from his knowledge of fantasy space and CG he earned by toiling on The Restless(2006) for two years. KIM recently filmed Quick, a new release by [JO Bum-gu], the director of Three Fellas.
