Born in 1970, KIM graduated with a degree in Architecture from Yonsei University. He later studied in the department of Film Production at Brooklyn College / City of University of New York in the US. He received a Master of Arts in Media Studies from New School University in New York. In 2003, he made his feature debut with Into the Mirror . Following his debut, KIM became involved in a number of omnibuses, directing segments for <One Shining Day> (2006), <Fantastic Parasuicides> (2007) and <Short! Short! Short! 2009>. In the meantime he was also a script editor on the thriller <Black House> (2007). Next was the Jeonju-selected drama <She Came From> (2009). Then, following a pair of shorts produced in 2012 (<Déjà Vu> and <In Good Company>), and three segments in omnibus films (<Fighting Family>, 2012; <Modern Family>, 2012; <Horror Stories II>, 2013), KIM returned to commercial feature directing with the family film <How to Steal a Dog>, based on the book of the same name by Barbara O’Connor.
