  • Teams Up with Local Producer Transformation Films

CJ Entertainment is continuing its move into the broader Asian market by teaming up with Transformation Films, a production company in Thailand. The companies co-produced the upcoming Thai-language film Touch the Sky.
Jointly financed, the film has a budget of THB 60 million (USD 1.83 million) and 80% of the filming took place in Korea. It is a remake of the 1988 Thai hit Odd Couple (Chalui) and tells the story of two men who dream of becoming singers. Featuring in the film are young Thai stars Nachat JUNTAPAN, Mek MEKWATTANA and Nichkhun HORVEJKUL, who is also a member of the Kpop group 2PM.

The move further signals CJ’s intent to be a major player in the Asian market, particularly in countries with developing industries. It’s sister exhibition company CGV already has the largest market share in Vietnam, the second-highest in Indonesia and the tenth in China. CJ has also been very actively producing films directly for the Chinese and Vietnamese markets. Their Chinese remake of Miss Granny, called 20, Once Again!, recently topped the charts in China and has so far earned over USD 50 million while Let Hoi Decide became Vietnam’s top grossing local film following its release last month.

Touch the Sky (Tae Kob Fah Chalui 2015) is due to be released in April, in time for Songkran, Thailand’s New Year holiday.
