    synopsis

One day,  a new inmate is transferred to the 7th cell of a jail where the worst and most violent prisoners are confined. Yong-gu has the intelligence of a 6-year-old child, but he cannot love his daughter more. The criminals in the 7th cell, who have committed bad crimes throughout their lives, get together for a seemingly impossible mission to bring Yong-gu’s daughter to the jail.

RYU Seung-ryong, who has shown off his masculinity in his filmography including War of the Arrows, All About My Wife and Masquerade, is now ready to surprise us with a new charm. His transformation from manly characters to a lovely man as the ‘daughter’s father’ is surprising. “Instead of changing my looks, I tried hard to bear the emotions of a child.”, said RYU, “I spent a lot of time talking with GAL, who acted as my daughter, and I had to maintain this tension to a certain extent during the entire shooting to go back to being a child.”

RYU visited a mentally deficient person, who was the reference model of his character, to make a blueprint for his acting. He explained how he built the character saying, “He was confident when saying something he wants to remember for a long time or he is good at, so I referred to this for my character.” LEE Hwan-kyung, the director said, “The character Yong-gu would have never been born without RYU.” He then added, “He is a really great actor who is full of character.”

The production crew agreed that his acting in the film was perfect and that he can be compared with Tom HANKS in Forrest Gump, Sean PENN of I Am Sam, CHO Seung-woo of Marathon, or WON Bin of Mother. Hit guaranteeing actors such as OH Dal-soo, PARK Won-sang, KIM Jung-tae and JUNG Jin-young add to the quality of the film. They, as members of so-called ‘Cell No. 7 family’, spice up the film. Expectations grow as they are set to make the new year’s holidays happy on the screen.

The director LEE gave a hint of the film’s style by saying, “I remember watching seeing a man being arrested and leaving his 7-year-old daughter behind in a documentary. The man kept telling her not to forget to eat before she goes to school because she didn’t have a mother. That scene was the motivation of this film.”
