cineinfo@finecut.co.krFollowing his debut Fasten Your Seatbelt, The Terror, Live star HA Jung-woo returns to the director’s chair with Chronicle of a Blood Merchant. Based on a Chinese novel by YU Hua, the story has been moved to 1950s Korea and features HA as well as Haeundae (2009) actress HA Ji-won on screen. In a small village where men must sell their blood in order to prove that they are healthy before getting married, young man HEO Sam-gwan goes through the tradition in order to be with HEO Ok-ran, the most beautiful girl in the village.HA’s filmmaking debut, which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival last year, may not have been a strong performer at the box office but the airline comedy was nevertheless well received. For his more ambitious follow-up, HA blends drama, comedy and a period setting. Beyond its two leads, HA’s film has assembled a coterie of strong supporting players such as KIM Sung-kyun, SUNG Dong-il, JUNG Man-sik, CHO Jin-woong and KIM Young-ae.
