The mid-season doldrums continued as new titles failed to energize the marketplace, which saw a 15% dip in admissions. 1.52 million entries, 50% of which is for Hollywood fare, were recorded over the frame.

Falling 45% in its third frame was Marvel’s blockbuster Doctor Strange. After adding another 548,000 viewers (USD 4.38 million) the film’s haul now stands at 4.83 million spectators (USD 36.49 million), making it the most successful Marvel film that does not feature any of the core Avengers characters.

With 337,000 entries (USD 2.44 million) over the weekend and 439,000 admissions (USD 3.11 million) since its Wednesday opening, local sports drama Split from OPUS Pictures had a decent start. The film features YOO Ji-tae as a has-been bowling star.

Still a presence on the charts after five weeks was local action-comedy LUCK-KEY, with also a 45% dip as it amassed another 245,000 tickets (USD 1.77 million), lifting its already stellar score to 6.8 million admissions (USD 47.33 million).

New US horror Ouija: Origin of Evil opened in fourth place with 162,000 viewers (USD 1.16 million) and 211,000 spectators (USD 1.48 million) in its first five days. Japanese animation Gamba rounded out the top five as it opened with 50,000 admissions (USD 332,000) over the weekend and 57,000 viewers (USD 375,000) since Thursday. 

Topping the diversity chart and landing sixth overall was Japanese title If Cats Disappeared from the World. The film recorded 33,000 entries (USD 193,000) over three days and 48,000 admissions (USD 285,000) over its first five days.

Business should come roaring back this weekend with the release of both Harry Potter-verse franchise title Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and local GANG Dong-won fantasy VANISHING TIME: A BOY WHO RETURNED.
