The King of Pigs Series, Officially Invited to the Fantasia International Film Festival for the First Time


 

The King of Pigs series, a remake of Director Yeon Sangho's animation The King of Pigs, has been officially invited to the 26th Fantasia International Film Festival. It is the largest genre film festival in North America, and it is the first time for the festival to screen a TV series. 

 

The Fantasia International Film Festival said, "Since we never invited a TV series before, we had to ponder hard. However, we decided to screen it because it is a fascinating action movie full of turns and twists." It also introduced, “Carried by solid performances and flawless technique, The King of Pigs is the first TV series to be presented by Fantasia. Don't miss this chance to see the first four episodes on the big screen. They will stay in your head for a long time.” From Episode 1 to Episode 4 will be screened out of 12 episodes during the festival. 

 

The King of Pigs depicts a story about Kyungmin and Jongsuk, who were driven to school violence in school, and reunite as a serial killer and a homicide detective, respectively. The film was released on OTT TVING in Korea in March. The series is based on the animation with the same title The King of Pigs (2011), directed and introduced by Director Yeon Sangho, who is famous for the films such as TRAIN TO BUSAN and Peninsula in the global film industry. 

 

The animation The King of Pigs, directed by Yeon Sangho, is also a film that wrote the history of the Fantasia International Film Festival. It received the 1st Satoshi Kon Award, which is the grand prize for animation, and the Special Mention in the Best First Film Competition at the 16th Fantasia International Film Festival in 2012. In addition, it was invited to the Directors Fortnight at the 65th Cannes Film Festival held in 2012. The King of Pigs is the first Korean feature animation to enter Cannes. 

 

The Fantasia International Film Festival, which started in 1996 and marks its 26th anniversary this year, is held every summer in Montreal, Canada. It runs from July 14 to August 3 this year.
