Celine Song Directorial Debut to Co-Star Greta Lee
Rising star Yoo Teo has landed the leading role in the upcoming project Past Lives, in which he will appear alongside Greta Lee. From debut filmmaker Celine Song, the film will be produced by A24, the acclaimed Hollywood indie studio behind Minari, Midsommar, and the currently on release The Green Knight, as well as the Korean studio CJ ENM. Outfits Killer Films and 2Am are also on board as producers on the project.
The debut of Korean-Canadian playwright Song, the film will focus on two characters who knew each other as children in Korea but went on to lead different lives before reuniting later on. Prior to Yoo’s involvement, it was reported last year that Parasite (2019) actor Choi Wooshik had been cast in the lead role.
Raised in Germany, actor Yoo first drew attention in the ensemble cast of Benson Lee’s Sundance film Seoul Searching (2015) and later drew acclaim as the Korean-Russian rocker Viktor TSOI in his Cannes-screened biopic Leto.
Of late, he has been gaining traction in the Korean market through a variety of films, such as Vertigo (2018), BLACK MONEY (2018), and New Year Blues (2021), as well as TV series, including The Arthdal Chronicles, Vagabond, The School Nurse Files and the upcoming Kim Jeewoon’s Apple TV+ series Dr. Brain.
